Lebenslauf

Andreas Focks obtained a Diploma (Msc) in Applied Systems Science from the University Osnabrück (Germany) in 2005. In his PhD, finished in 2009, and a following PostDoc work, he worked about modelling chemical fate dynamics and effects of veterinary medicines in soils. Andreas changed to Wageningen University in 2011 for a PostDoc in the MarieCurie ITN program CREAM “Mechanistic Effect Models for Ecological Risk Assessment of Chemicals”, where he worked on ecological effect modelling for pesticides at landscape scales. Andreas worked from 2012 to 2021 as ecological modeller at the research institute Wageningen Environmental Research (formerly ‘Alterra’), as part of Wageningen University and Research Centre (The Netherlands). He was involved in several national and international research projects in the context of environmental risk assessment of chemicals, amongst others in projects for the Dutch government about toxicokinetic-toxicodynamic modelling of chemical effects for aquatic macroinvertebrates (2013-2020). Andreas was responsible scientist in Wageningen for the EU 7th framework research project “SOLUTIONS for present and future emerging pollutants in land and water resources management” (2013-2018) with contributions in community- and traits-based identification of chemical effects and ecological modelling. He worked since November 2016 as external scientific expert for the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), amongst others in the working group on toxicokinetic-toxicodynamic and simple food chain modelling, and since July 2020 as member of the panel for Plant Protection Products and their Residues (PPR). Since 2008, Andreas (co-) authored >50 papers in peer reviewed journals. He is member and actively participating in the Society for Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC), where he is member of the steering committee of the interest group ‘Effect modelling’ and chair of the working group on ‘Model acceptability criteria, version control and scenario development’.
As of April 1st 2021,  Andreas changed to University of Osnabrück for a substitute professorship for "Environmental Systems Modelling", and was appointed as full professor for "Environmental Systems Modelling" in November 2021
