Beschreibung:
Derek Parfit is one of the most influential contemporary moral philosophers. He is famous for his theory of personal identity over time and the fundamental and moral conclusions he draws from it: a revised conception of death and a motivation for altruism. More recently, Parfit has attempted to develop a synthesis of seemingly disparate moral systems, namely consequentialism, Kantianism and contractualism. He also made some important contributions to applied ethics and metaethics.
In this seminar, we will read and discuss papers and bookchapters that cover the most important parts of Parfit's philosophy. The course lasts 4 hours and is worth 8 credits. We will have a regular coffee break together :-)
The exact course requirements will be discussed in the first meeting.
