Beschreibung:
This seminar is designed specifically for international students, offering a unique opportunity to deepen your understanding of identity, migration, and social responsibility within both German and global contexts. We’ll move beyond just academic literature by working with engaging media such as TEDx talks, documentaries, and other interactive resources. The focus is on creating an open space where everyone’s diverse background is valued, and every voice matters. You’ll be encouraged to share your perspectives as we collectively challenge societal norms and explore power structures in today’s globalized world.
Key Topics:
• Belonging and Exclusion: Understanding how inclusion and exclusion are shaped in different cultural contexts.
• Single Stories, Stereotypes, and Racism: Investigating how narrow narratives and racial biases influence identity and belonging.
• Societal Power Structures: Examining how power dynamics in Germany and globally affect migration and social responsibility. We will also shed an extra light on the current situation in Palestine&Israel.
• Gendered Perspectives on Refugee Migration: Exploring how gender plays a role in refugee experiences and challenges.
• Migration and Globalization: How global movements shape both individual and collective identities - shedding additional light on Palestinians
• Social Responsibility: Ethical reflections on our roles in migration and belonging.
• Self-Reflection: Encouraging introspection about personal biases and our roles in shaping societal norms.
Course Format:
The immersive "Belonging Beyond Borders"- seminar combines half-day sessions filled with group work, discussions, and shared learning experiences. We balance scholarly reflection with hands-on activities to enhance cultural awareness and critical thinking. The open format fosters dialogue where all participants can share their unique opinions and experiences.
