Course description:
This course gives an overview on current research in Psycholinguistics and Pragmatics. It is intended for advanced Bachelor's and Master's students who are preparing to write a Bachelor's or Master's thesis with the Psycholinguistics/Neurolinguistics group. The course starts with a methods and writing overview. Then, we will discuss concrete research projects.
It is obligatory for thesis students to attend this course to learn how research in linguistics is done, how to write a thesis and to get feedback on their projects. Further students (who are not writing a thesis with us) are welcome, too.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this course, students will:
1. have an overview of different theories and methods in linguistics
2. know how to structure a thesis
3. know how to carry out experimental research
4. consider and improve on methods and statistics
Prerequisites:
Students need to have taken a lecture or seminar with the Psycholinguistics/Neurolinguistics group before.
Course Format:
· Delivery Method: hybrid
· Type of Contact & Contact Hours: Wednesday 10-12
· Selection Process: none
Assessment and Grading:
Students need to do a presentation on their thesis project (50% of grade), give feedback on other student's presentations and submit an abstract and a thesis outline (50 %).
Regular attendance is expected.
Important Dates:
· Final Exam or Project Due Date: 19th July (and presentations during the semester)
