Welcome on the homepage of the Institute of Psychology of the University of Osnabrueck (The complete English version is under construction) The work of the Institute of Psychology at Osnabrueck is characterized by an empirical, mainly experimental approach and a close connection between basic science and applied disciplines.
Subdivisions and professorshipsThe Institute of Psychology consists of 10 subdivisions (professorships).
In the area of the basic science disciplines these are „Psychology of Memory and Perception”, “Psychology of Learning, Emotion and Motivation and Biological Psychology“, „Differential Psychology“, „Development and Culture“, and „Social Psychology“. The methods are represented in the subdivision „Research Methods, Diagnostics and Evaluation“. In the area of applied psychology there are four professorships „Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy“, „Psychotherapy and Clinical Psychology”, „Industrial and Organizational Psychology” and “Pedagogical Psychology”. ResearchThere are two main focuses of research. Based on the above listed focuses, there are a number of interdisciplinary cooperations, both within the University of Osnabrueck and outside. TeachingStudents of psychology at the University of Osnabrueck rate their study conditions and supervision as very good as shown in the regularly official rankings. At the Institute of Psychology the following degrees can be obtained: the Diploma of Psychology (last entry for students in winter term 2007/2008), Bachelor of Science (B. Sc.) Psychology (since winter term 2008/09), and the Master of Science (M. Sc.) of Psychology. The M. Sc. provides a focus either on Clinical Psychology or Intercultural Psychology (and will start in the winter term 2011/12). In the winter term 2009/10, the postgraduate studies for the doctoral degree start.
